VFW & Auxiliary Scholarships


 The VFW's Voice of Democracy, grades 9-12,  and Patriot Pen, grades 6-8,  entries are due by October 31, 2023. 

The VFW Auxiliary Patriotic Art, grades 9-12,  scholarship entries are due March 31, 2024. New this year we have a 3 D category. We also have Illustrating America for grades K-8 also due March 31, 2024. 

The Auxiliary also has an Illustrating America Art Contest, grades K-8 and a singing contest for singing the Star-Spangled Banner. Get excited for the Red, White and Blue is for grades K-12, entries due by March 31, 2024 and entries for any of these contests may be submitted through Post & Auxiliary 1481, 907 W 12th St., Ogden, UT.

Summer Bridge Program at the University of Utah

Summer bridge program called Strong Start for 300 first-year students who are planning to attend the University of Utah. 

Students will live on campus and enroll in two classes, a math or writing course and a general education course in design thinking. As part of the program, students will be exposed to a variety of campus departments, services, and resources. On-campus housing is an option for students as well.


This program takes place during the 2nd Summer Session from June 23-August 2.  Students will also need to register for one of the June 22-23 New Student Orientation Sessions.

 Applications are due Monday April 3rd.

Strong Start is an open University of Utah summer bridge program. Students who are interested in the program but may have financial barriers should fill out both the 2022-2023 AND the 2023-2024 FASA. In addition, scholarship money is available for students who identify as low income and first generation who are accepted into the program.

Program Overview
The Jiffy Lube "What Drives You?" High School Scholarship program is a unique opportunity to pursue your interests, goals and ideas. A simple 500 words about what drives you? Three Finalists will be selected in both categories from the 500 word "What Drives You?" essays. Each finalists will be guaranteed a $1500 award and then will create and submit a unique 1-2 min. video that expands on their essay in their own candid words, visuals, etc. The overall $6,500 scholarship winner will be chosen from these videos. Click on guidelines, rules and eligibility for complete details.

Scholarship Description

The HSF Scholarship is designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a university degree.

Awards are based on merit; amounts range from $500 to $5,000, based on relative need, among the Scholars selected.

Scholarships are available, on a competitive basis, to:

  • High school seniors
  • Undergraduate students (all years)
  • Community college students transferring to four year universities
  • Graduate Students

Eligibility Description

  • Must be of Hispanic heritage
  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for high school students
  • Minimum of 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited, not-for-profit, four-year university, or graduate school in the US
  • All majors and graduate fields accepted, emphasis on STEM majors
  • US Citizen, Permanent Legal Resident, DACA or Eligible Non-Citizen (as defined by FAFSA)
  • Complete FAFSA or state based financial aid application (if applicable)
